What Can Make My Face Look Younger? – Neck lift V.S. Face Lift

Are you following a healthy lifestyle and routinely using skin care products, but your face is still showing signs of age? You may want to consider having a neck lift or facelift to rejuvenate your appearance.

What Causes the Skin to Age?

Over time, the skin loses collagen and elastin, reducing its moisture and elasticity.  The skin therefore becomes thinner, drier and loses its ability to maintain shape. Other factors such as sun exposure, stress and smoking also causes the skin to age. This results in loose tissue and the formation of deep lines and folds, in addition to jowls along the jaw line.

How Can a Neck Lift Make You Look Younger?

Neck lift surgery tightens and smooths the skin on the neck to restore youthful contours, and enhance the appearance of the face. The neck is particularly vulnerable to the changes brought on by aging and often shows signs of aging early.

Loose skin and excess fat below the chin are common signs of aging in the neck area. The sagging of the muscles and skin in the neck often creates the appearance of a turkey neck. A neck lift addresses these issues at the source.

Neck Lift Surgery Details

A neck lift is an outpatient procedure that is usually done under general anesthesia.  The incisions are typically made behind the ears and under the chin.  During the procedure the surgeon will remove the excess skin and tissue, and lift and tighten the muscles at the front of the neck (platysma muscles).   Liposuction may also be performed to get rid of any excess fat.

How Can a Facelift Make you Look Younger?

A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure that can help to create a refreshed, youthful appearance. It traditionally focuses on the lower region of the face as it reduces wrinkles around the mouth, and tightens the skin around the chin and jawline.

Facelift Surgery

A facelift is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. The incisions for a traditional facelift are made behind the hairline, above the ear, and extend around the ear and into the hairline. However, there are different techniques now being used to perform a facelift, so the placement of the incisions may vary.  During the procedure the surgeon will reposition sagging skin and muscle, as wells, remove any excess skin.

What Can Make My Face Look Younger?

A neck lift and facelift can both rejuvenate your face and have a significant impact on your appearance. A facelift rejuvenates the lower half of the face, while a neck lift rejuvenates the area below the chin and neck.

If you need to get rid of loose skin around the neck and fat below the chin, a neck lift may be the right procedure for you. Your neck will look smoother and more youthful and your jaw line will be better defined. Even if your face looks young, an aging neck can still make you look older. Therefore, a facial rejuvenation must also include the neck.

If you have started to experience skin laxity in the face and neck, including sagging jowls, a facelift would be appropriate for you.  A face lift removes major folds and wrinkles.  It also gets rid of jowls to improve the definition of the jawline, and create a more youthful appearance.
