For people who struggle with unwanted body fat, laser lipolysis (laser lipo) is a great alternative to traditional lipo treatment. There are several brands of laser lipo now available including Slim Lipo and Smart Lipo. These are both effective non-surgical fat removal techniques that can break down the fat cells efficiently. But how can you choose between Slim Lipo vs Smart Lipo, and determine which is best.
Laser lipo explained
Laser lipo is a minimally invasive procedure that has become a popular method to burn fat away, and sculpt and shape the body. The laser energy targets the fat deposits, and heats up the fat cells to the point where they are destroyed. The liquefied fat is then removed using a liposuction cannula, which is a small suction tube.
The procedure is virtually painless, and it typically takes one treatment with laser lipo to see the desired results. There is generally less bruising and discomfort with laser lipo, than there is with traditional liposuction.
Each laser lipo session lasts for about 2-3 hours, but this depends on the number of areas being treated. Laser lipo achieves measurable inch loss, but it should not be seen as an alternative to following healthy diet, and getting regular exercise. It is therefore not recommended for people who are substantially overweight.
Laser lipo can be used on both the face and body. Areas that are usually sculpted with laser lipo include the abdomen, hips, thighs, upper arms, chin, and neck.
Slim Lipo is a type of laser assisted liposuction that removes fatty tissue, and tightens the skin. Slim Lipo treatment is generally performed as an outpatient procedure using tumescent anesthesia, therefore patients remain awake during the session.
The laser is inserted via very tiny incisions, and emits two distinct wavelengths of laser light. Slim Lipo is equipped with 924nm and 975nm wavelengths that allows it to efficiently melt fat, and also tighten the skin.
Most patients notice an improvement in the smoothness and tightness of the skin after Slim Lipo. In many cases there is continued firming of the skin for up to 6 months after treatment.
Smart Lipo is also a non-invasive body contouring option that is used to melt away unwanted body fat, and also tighten the skin. Smart Lipo is manufactured by Cynosure, a company that is known for producing innovative aesthetic laser solutions.
Smart Lipo is usually performed using local anesthesia. The laser is inserted under the skin via a small incision. The procedure is commonly used on areas such as the hips, love handles, abdomen, thighs, and upper arms.
Patients generally experience some soreness and discomfort after treatment, but this typically lasts for only 2-3 days.
Which is Better?
Slim Lipo and Smart Lipo can both be used to contour the body, and achieve very dramatic results. However, physicians have preferences based on specific features of the devices, and the feedback from patients.
Both lasers have a fiber optic hand piece that deliver laser energy to the skin, but the Slim Lipo has 2 wavelengths. One wavelength specifically targets fat, while the other focuses on skin tightening.
Some surgeons prefer Slim Lipo because of the disposable interchangeable tips. This feature makes the laser easier to work with, because it allows access to hard-to-reach parts of the body. The Smart Lipo fiber optic laser has a less flexible design, and is therefore not able to get to these areas easily.
Recovery is very quick with Slim Lipo, and most patients are able to go back to work the following day.
Slim Lipo and Smart Lipo are very effective laser lipo devices, but good results with laser lipo depends not only on the technology, but also on the practitioner. In order to get the best results, you should choose a board certified plastic surgeon with the relevant experience in using the technology.
