3 Signs You Are Ready for a Tummy Tuck

You’ve found a diet and exercise routine that you enjoy and works for you. Still, despite all of your hard work and dedication, you continue to carry a little bit of extra weight around your abdomen that you cannot seem to get rid of. Is a tummy tuck the right choice to help you tighten, flatten, and smooth your midsection?

Continue reading to find out if your are ready for a tummy tuck.

1.     You Have Reached (or Are Near) Your Goal Weight

One of the most important things to understand about a tummy tuck is that it is not a solution for weight loss.

The reason for this is that a tummy tuck, like liposuction, targets subcutaneous fat which is located directly underneath your skin. It cannot eliminate visceral fat, the type of fat that accumulates around internal organs in the abdominal cavity.

Ultimately, the best candidates for a tummy tuck are those who have lost weight through healthy nutrition and exercise, but continue to struggle with stretched muscles, loose skin, or excess fat in their midsection.

2.     You Do Not Plan to Have More Children

After pregnancy and childbirth, many women find themselves coping with stretched abdominal muscles and a stomach that appears more rounded. A tummy tuck can help to tighten abdominal muscles and remove excess fat and skin.

Remember that having a tummy tuck now won’t prevent you from becoming pregnant down the road, but future pregnancies can have a negative impact on long-term results, because the muscles in your abdomen will need to stretch again in order to accommodate a growing baby.

3.     You Are Prepared to Take the Time Needed to Recuperate

A tummy tuck is a major surgical procedure, which is why you need to make sure you are prepared to take the time needed to heal:

  • You should anticipate spending at least two weeks recuperating at home before going back to work.
  • You won’t be able to undertake strenuous exercises or activities, lift weights in excess of five pounds, or pick up small children for roughly six weeks.
  • Typically, you will need to wear a compression garment for six weeks or so, to minimize any swelling and discomfort.

To see the best results, always follow the advice and guidance your cosmetic surgeon provides.
