ProLipo is a minimally invasive laser-assisted treatment designed to ablate and melt unwanted fat from localized areas of the body. The procedure works by delivering highly focused laser-light energy to fat cells beneath the skin. This treatment is typically combined with other liposuctino or laser liposuction methods but can successfully be used on its own.
ProLipo does require the use of tumescent local anesthesia, but it does not require any general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. ProLipo as a procedure comes with minimal recovery time, usually taking no longer than a couple of days. In addition to melting fatty tissue, Pro Lipo is shown to tighten the skin through the remodeling and neoforming of collagen in the skin.
ProLipo s safe and effective when used alone or in combination with other tumescent liposuction. It is most effective int the following body areas:
- chin, cheek, jowls
- underchin, neck
- back of neck
- upper arms
- upper back
- upper and lower abdomen
- flanks and sides
- hips and waist
- inner and outer thighs
- banana folds
- male chest
How is it performed?
ProLipo is safest and most effective when performed by a qualified surgeon using the tumescent anesthesiologic technique. This involves an injection of a diluted local anesthetic, usually containing epinephrine, into the target area. Once your surgeon has determined that the area is completely numb, they will make a small incision in the skin and insert a cannula containing a laser fiber through the opening. When your practitioner begins to fire the laser, the focused energy gets absorbed into the fat cells in the target area, which will gradually get broken down. The laser-light can also have a skin tightening effect through the stimulation of dermal collagen. A treament session will usually only last within 1-4 hours and will usually involve some suctioning of fat at the end.
Is it right for me?
ProLipo is safest when performed on healthy individuals with no underlying systemic medical conditions. It is most effective on localized fatty areas which are resistant to diet and exercise.
What result can I expect?
The results of ProLipo are immediate visible, as long as some fat suctioning was performed during the treatment session. Some shrinkage and tightening of the fat space will occur over the weeks following your procedure. You will likely notice the effect of collagen stimulation and remodeling slowly over weeks and months after ProLipo treatment.
As with any lipo-laser treatment, the destruction of fat cells during the procedure is only partial. The removal of all fat would leave the skin resting directly over muscle, which is not advisable. In the years following a procedure, iif an individual gains weight then this fat is llikely to accumulate in the areas that have not been treated. The most effective way of maintaining the results of a Pro Lipo procedure is to keep up a healthy diet and exercise regime.
Most patients only experience mild pain and bruising after a ProLipo treatment. Normal over-the counter pain medication is usually more than adequate for handling this, and you should consult your surgeon if they are not. Your practitioner may reccommend you wear compression garments for a week or so after your treatment to help decrease swelling, bruising, and discomfort. All patients are able to return to their normal level of activity in the first 1-2 days after a ProLipo procedure.
