Do you exercise regularly but still have some areas of stubborn fat that you can’t seem to shake? You can reshape your body with CoolSculpting. CoolSculpting is a fast, convenient way to get rid of unwanted fat without surgery. How many Coolsculpting treatments are needed, and how long does results last?
CoolSculpting is a fat freezing procedure that contours the body using an innovative system of controlled cooling known as Cryolipolysis. Cryolipolysis involves the targeted application of cold temperature to the subcutaneous layer of fat that lies just beneath the skin. The procedure causes the fat cells to collapse and eventually die.
CoolSculpting eliminates about 25% of the fat in the treated area, and those fat cells are gone for good. However, if you gain weight, the remaining fat cells will get bigger, but the fat won’t show up in the areas that were treated. Individuals who undergo CoolSculpting are generally advised to adopt a program of healthy eating and regular exercise, in order to maintain the results. CoolSculpting is a relatively painless procedure, and there is no downtime.
How it Works
The device has a paddle-like applicator with 2 panels, which is placed on the area of the body being targeted for reshaping. The applicator produces a vacuum effect that pulls the spot being treated into the panels. It then selectively freezes the fat cells causing them to crystallize, without damaging the surrounding skin. Over the following weeks, the fat cells die and are then naturally removed by the body.
The CoolSculpting device is able to eliminate the fat cells only, as these cells freeze at a much higher temperature than other tissue.
How Long Does the CoolSculpting Procedure Last?
The duration of the CoolSculpting procedure depends on the size of the area being treated. It typically takes 1 hour to treat each area. A single treatment area is about the size of your hand, and the applicator is able to treat only one area at a time. So, if you’re treating love handles, each side can’t be treated at once, therefore, the procedure will last for about 2 hours. Some medical practitioners have 2 machines, allowing them to treat 2 spots simultaneously, thereby reducing the overall treatment time.
How Many CoolSculpting Treatments Are Needed?
The number of treatments required will depend on the amount of fat, the circumferential reduction desired, as well as the number of areas being treated. At Medicetics, we will customize a plan for you based on your aesthetic goals.
A typical treatment program consists of 1-3 sessions. One treatment with Coolsculpting provides 20-25% reduction in fat. If your goal is to achieve at least a 50% fat reduction, a secondary treatment will be needed. Treatments are usually spaced 2-3 weeks apart.
What to Expect
The area will be tender after treatment, since it has been positioned between the panels for the duration of treatment. The skin may also be a little numb and red, but the doctor may gently massage the area to help ease any discomfort. However, most people are able to go right back to regular activities.
As the fat cells break down in the weeks following treatment, there will be incremental fat reduction. The fat cells left behind will also contract, and there will be a noticeable reduction in flab, leading to a slimmer, sleeker look within 2 to 3 months.
