How to Eliminate Acne Scars and Skin Complexion Issues

Acne scars, dark spots, wrinkles and fine lines are some of the complexion issues that can leave you feeling less than confident. Many of these skin conditions are difficult to handle, so people often wonder how to safely eliminate acne scars and skin complexion issues.

Maintaining the health and beauty of your skin is never easy. External factors such as excess sun exposure and aging can cause your complexion to become dull and drab. Over time the skin loses its radiance and elasticity, developing wrinkles, sunspots and other complexion issues. That’s why there is such a high demand for cosmetic procedures such as laser skin resurfacing.

Laser Skin Resurfacing to Eliminate Acne Scars

Laser skin resurfacing is a cosmetic treatment that uses laser technology to treat a range of skin problems, including acne scars and sun damaged skin. Skin resurfacing treatment leaves the skin fresh and youthful. It gets rid of the damaged layers of skin, and helps skin cells regeneration.

Laser skin resurfacing treats spots and other blemishes by targeting the excess melanin in the skin. The heat from the laser is absorbed by the pigment, and eventually breaks it down.

There are several types of lasers now available for skin resurfacing, and they vary in terms of the depth of penetration. In particular, there are ablative and non-ablative laser treatments.

Ablative Lasers

Such as the CO2 (carbon dioxide) lasers are more aggressive, and work by removing the thin outer layer of the skin. They require a longer healing time when compared to non-ablative lasers, but produce more dramatic skin rejuvenation results.

Ablative lasers treat complexion issues by removing the outer, epidermal layer of the skin in order to eliminate the scar tissue, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, spots and other irregularities. This type of laser treatment is very effective for treating deeper scars, and correcting textural concerns.

Non-Ablative Lasers

These are less invasive than ablative lasers as they don’t remove the outer skin layer. The lasers create microscopic channels through which the laser energy penetrates through to the underlying tissue of the skin.

The penetration of the laser energy into the dermal layer jumpstarts the skin’s healing process by stimulating the production of collagen. The new collagen fills in the microscopic channels created by the laser, and this helps to diminish acne scars and other complexion issues. Healing time is faster with non-ablative laser treatments, as the top layer of the skin is not affected by the laser energy.

Which Type of Laser Skin Rejuvenation is Right for You?

Both ablative and non-ablative laser rejuvenation can treat acne scars and other skin issues.

Ablative laser resurfacing is generally for individuals with deep acne scars, and considerable signs of aging. However, patients may require up to 2 weeks downtime with ablative laser treatment.

Non-ablative laser resurfacing is more effective for eliminating superficial acne scars, and correcting mild to moderate signs of aging.

It can take anywhere from 5-7 laser skin resurfacing treatment to correct complexion issues. It all depends on your specific skin concerns.

If You Are Considering Laser Skin Resurfacing

It’s best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Based on the condition of your skin, and your aesthetic goals they can advise which treatment would be suitable.

Laser skin resurfacing may be done with other cosmetic treatments, in order to achieve optimal rejuvenation results.

If you have skin irregularities such as acne, wrinkles and sunspots. You’ve tried tropical creams with little success, you may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing.
