Integrative Dermatology of Boca Raton, FL is an energetically based, sacred healing space created by Board-Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Laura E. Skellchock in 2007.
Dr. Skellchock has always felt very blessed to know her path in life – her desire to help others by practicing medicine became evident as a child. Armed with this knowledge, she excelled in school, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University with a B.S. in Zoology. She then graduated with top Honors from the University of Arizona College of Medicine where she was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
After completing her categorical Internal Medicine Internship at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, she went to San Diego where she completed her dermatology residency at the prestigious University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. Oakland, California became her home for the next 13 years, where she was a Senior Partner at The Permanente Medical Group, which is the largest non-profit HMO in the United States. There she took care of patients with advanced, complicated, challenging skin disorders and saw myriads of patients with difficult to diagnose conditions and unusual pathology. While in Oakland Dr. Skellchock was also an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the renowned University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.
While in Oakland in the 1990′s, Dr. Skellchock was also the medical director for the Vanishing Point Medical Group, leading the direction of the first national laser hair removal company. There she also performed cosmetic dermatology procedures such as BOTOX®, collagen, PhotoFacials, and laser vein treatments in addition to laser hair removal. Not one to let any grass grow under her feet, Dr. Skellchock was also the Editor-in-Chief of SKINCARE TODAY, the first nationally distributed patient and physician oriented, dermatology education publication.
Dr. Skellchock has known Dr. Andrew Weil since her days in medical school, and has always practiced medicine with the caveat that her patients deserve a comprehensive approach to achieve health and wellness. She completed a formal Integrative Medicine Fellowship with him in 2003-2005. She is one of the few dermatologists in the US who has this training in addition to her Dermatology board certification. Dr. Skellchock wrote the chapter on Atopic Dermatitis for the 2007 edition of Rakel’s Textbook of Integrative Medicine.
Evidence once again of her life long love of learning, Dr. Skellchock dermatologist Boca Raton completed her Age-Management Certification Program with Cenegenic Medical Institute in 2003. In addition to nutrition and exercise, bio-identical hormones and supplements are used in conjunction with cosmetic procedures to manage the aging process.
Dr. Skellchock has an “eye for beauty” and this is what makes her such a fabulous cosmetic dermatologist. Very few patients want others to know that they’ve had work done, so she strives to create a natural, more youthful, “rested” look as opposed to that “Boca Babe” stereotype. Always aware of keeping her patients as comfortable as possible, she uses innovative methods to manage discomfort during procedures.
Complete skin exams and diagnosing skin cancers are another specialty of Dr. Skellchock. She uses a dermatoscope to examine lesions, which allows her to look “into” the skin and see much more than is possible with the naked eye. For this reason, she usually diagnoses abnormal pigmented lesions before they reach the melanoma stage.
For personal reasons, Dr. Skellchock moved to South Florida in 2003 to manage a cosmetic dermatology practice in Coral Springs. She started her own practice in January 2006, and opened her beautiful new Boca Raton Dermatology office in June 2007.
