Cellulite is one of the more common concerns amongst women, occurring in 90% of women past thirty years old. In North America, an average of $6 million is spent trying to get rid of it! Cellulite is the dimpling or lumpy appearance of the skin most often seen in the buttocks or thigh area. This occurs when the connective bands that are woven throughout the fat are tightened, pulling the skin down, which causes underlying fat to bulge.
CMDL: Cellfina is a new treatment for cellulite in Canada. How does this work and how does it differ from past treatments like, Venus Freeze?
Dr. Khanna: We can’t even compare it to any of the other treatments offered in the past. Cellfina actually releases the cellulite dimples by cutting the bands in the fat, which causes cellulite. This procedure only requires an hour and can treat up to 50-70 dimples at one time. We freeze the area, then use a petri dish with suction to lift the targeted area. Afterwards, I go in and make a release in the band. This treatment is very precise and we have had great success with it.
CMDL: How long do the results last, and will the cellulite return?
Dr. Khanna: Studies have shown that results can last up to three years. In my clinic, we have even noticed a change in the buttocks’ curvature.
CMDL: Who is an ideal candidate?
Dr. Khanna: Women that are of normal weight with deep pitted cellulite, and no excess skin nor stretch marks usually see the best results.
CMDL: What is the recovery time for Cellfina?
Dr. Khanna: Within the first 24-48hrs there will be some tenderness and bruising. We suggest wearing compression garments to help with the inflammation. We follow up with the patients within a week and most will see results in 3 to 4 months. This treatment is easy, safe, fast, and very reliable.
