What is My Best Option – Breast Augmentation vs Lift?

Breast augmentation and breast lift surgeries are both designed to rejuvenate the breasts. Appearance issues may be the result of more than just size, it could be caused by factors such as sagging, poor shape and asymmetry. That’s why women considering breast enhancement must consult with a plastic surgeon to help answer the question – Breast Augmentation vs Lift?

Breast Augmentation vs Lift?

The right procedure for you will depend on the type of adjustments your breasts need. Although breast augmentation and a breast lift can both enhance the breasts, they correct different concerns.

When You Need a Breast Augmentation

If you would like to add volume to your breasts only, a breast augmentation uses  implants to increase size. Women with breasts that are small and firm, but would like larger breasts are ideal candidates for breast augmentation.

Breast augmentation uses silicone or saline implants to add volume, especially in the upper pole of the breasts.

When You Need a Breast Lift

If you have droopy, sagging breasts, but are happy with the size, you would probably be a good candidate for a breast lift. Sagging of the breasts can occur due to a variety of reasons including weight loss, stretching of the breasts during pregnancy or breastfeeding as well as the passage of time.

Women that have significant breast ptosis (breast sagging) are normally good candidates for a breast lift. The severity of breast ptosis is marked by the location of the nipples and lower breast tissue, in relation to the inframammary fold at the bottom of the breast. A breast lift (mastopexy) corrects this by removing excess skin and reducing the size of the areola.

When You Need a Combined Breast Lift and Augmentation

Breast augmentation can sometimes provide a slight lift to the breasts, but women with breast ptosis will also need a breast lift to restore the overall appearance.

Placing implants in breasts that are already sagging will make them heavier, and  further weaken the breast tissue. Breast lift surgery will provide the breasts with the necessary elevation and support. It also improves the appearance of the nipple/areolar complex.

Patients that have sagging breasts that also lack volume should have a combination breast lift with implants. This will completely rejuvenate the breasts, and ensure the best possible results.
