Good Morning Leeana and thank you for your question. Preparing for any surgery should include a healthy diet and fluid intake. With regard to fat transfer surgery, your surgeon will assess how much fat you have from one body area to donate to another. If you are a healthy weight and have good donor sites (common areas being abdomen or thighs) then adding calories to “gain” weight shouldn’t be needed. Increasing your protein and water intake is always advised, as well as minimizing the intake of certain supplements such as green tea, garlic, ginger, ginseng, ginkgo, vitamin E, spirulina and glucosamine, as well as advil or aspirin products, as they have blood thinning properties that could contribute to increased bruising and bleeding during and afters surgery. As always consult only with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and best of luck!Dr. K.
