Tattoo removal with white ink
I have a tattoo that I want removed. It was done with white ink only. Will that take more sessions to be removed and if so how many sessions do you think it will take? Its a very small tattoo, about the size of a loonie.

Dear Whitney,
Thank you for your clinical post and
a most serious topic. White ink is a
risky ink pigment to have used on one’s body.
The reason for the concern over the use of white ink is several
fold. White ink comes from titanium
dioxide and the breakdown products of titanium dioxide combined with other
tattoo ink colours may be carcinogenic.
In addition, laser treatment of titanium dioxide or white ink can result
in the ink turning grey or black resulting in the need for laser treatments to
remove.
This combination of uncertainty about
the safety of white ink and its difficulty in removal means that if one can
avoid a white tattoo all the better.
If you already have a white tattoo
it’s best to seek out a very experienced laser tattoo removal centre owned and
operated by a physician. At SpaMedica we’ve been performing laser tattoo
removal for close to 20 years. We use
Picosecond technology such as the PicoWay and the Picosure as well as multiple
nanosecond lasers to ensure the best result.
Best of luck.
