What can I do about my lips losing definition?

Question posted by Anonymous from Winnipeg, MB

I am in my mid-30’s and have noticed that my lips don’t seem as defined as they used to be. They also seem less pigmented, especially at the edges. Is there anything I can do to help the appearance fullness of my lips? Edges appear faded, have a couple of dark spots around the edges as well that is difficult to conceal with makeup. How easy would it be to correct this issue? Thanks!

  • Loss of lip definition and the youthful characteristics of one’s lips is a common complaint in the 30s and 40s.  Loss of lip definition include loss of the white roll that navigates around the red lip, loss of red lip height and fullness, as well as increasing lines and increasing sunspots, pigmentation and loss of red lip definition.

As there are multiple aging processes at play generally multiple techniques are required to complete a rejuvenation aging lips.  The first is to restore proper lip volume and shape without looking unnatural or “ducky.”  The artistic use of soft tissue fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane can restore vertical height to the red lip rather than anterior/posterior projection, avoid the ducky look, but still increase the red lip show right down to the corners of the mouth.  Augmenting the white roll around the red lip can provide a more youthful definition and then the use of brown spot laser such as the Picosure can remove brown spots and sunspots that come out especially during the summer.  Loss of red lip definition can be restored with permanent cosmetic tattooing or micropigmentation.  Finally, small amounts of Botox into the corner of the mouth can keep the corners of the mouth horizontal and result in a slight rolling out of the upper lip at the corner of the mouth.  Fractional lasers can be used to reduce upper lip lines and bleed lines that sometimes allow makeup to bleed up into them.

Combination therapy such as this will often lead to the most natural looking lip rejuvenation and seeking the expertise of someone with a lot of experience in lip enhancement is usually advisable.

I’m sure you can get an excellent lip rejuvenation with careful selection of your treatment facility and professional.
