Does fat often appear after liposuction, but in different areas?
I have previously had lipsuction and now I have a layer of fat which is right above where I had my previous surgery. Is this common and can I have this removed?

Dear Leanne,
Thank you for your clinical post and a
frequently asked question. Following
successful cosmetic liposuction the fat in an area of convex distension or
collection is removed. Once this fat is
removed it can never be returned. The
amount of fat remaining in these areas is therefore minimal and the body’s
ability to store unwanted and excess of carbohydrates is therefore minimized in
the liposuction areas. Thus, weight gain
following liposuction generally results in a modest derangement of the
improvement achieved in the liposuction areas, but often significant
carbohydrate gain and soft tissue distortion in areas where fat normally did
not used to accumulate. Thus, it is
important to have a very strong commitment to weight management after
liposuction or you’ll find that you’ll gain excess fat in areas where you
didn’t normally accumulate.
Best of luck.
