I have had a Fractura 3000 treatment for brown spots – I still have them. What is recommended.

Question posted by Nitz from Toronto

I am 35 years old, Filipino decent.  I have had monthly Fractura Treatments for four months. This has worked well around my cheek area. The area under my lip is still dark and does not seem to react well. Do you recommend another treatment or an additional treatment that I could do with the fractura?

  • Dear Nitz,

The Fractora 3000 is an excellent treatment device option for patients of Asian or Hispanic descent.  The Fractora 3000 is a bipolar radio frequency needle device that can come with silicone coating that greatly reduces the risk of hyperpigmentation when treating darker skin.  The bipolar and monopolar blade of frequency imaging will improve texture such as acne scars, pores and fine lines, as well as tighten skin.  One of the additional benefits is reduction of brown discolouration and brown spots.

When the Fractora is not successful and fully achieving your brown spot reduction goals then consideration of adding a topical home bleaching regime using hydroquinone, retinoic acid and salicylic acid for four or five weeks prior to instituting a treatment regime with intense pulsed light also known as IPL Photofacial.  The Lumecca 580 nanometer filters an excellent option for darker skin.  In addition, one can consider the use of the Picosure laser and very short pulse duration wavelengths of light to shatter unwanted brown pigment minimizing the risk of post-inflammatory
hyperpigmentation or worsening of the brown.

As you can see there are many options and you need to be careful to select the certified specialist with expertise in treating brown skin to minimize the risk of making your brown discolouration under your lip or anywhere else on your face worse.

I would approach your treatment provider with these same questions and some of these options and I’m sure they will be able to provide you with a comprehensive multi-modal approach using IPL, skin suppression or bleaching, Fractora and other light devices to improve your overall skin colouration, texture and tone.

I hope this information has been of some assistance and best of luck.
