How often does Botox need to be injected to maintain?

Question posted by Marissa S from Richmond

My mother was interested in doing Botox on her forehead, how often would she need to go to the doctor to maintain the effects?

  • Thank you very much for your clinical post.  A maintenance schedule for Botox is critical
to maintain its aesthetic clinical effect of softening lines and wrinkles
elevating the brow in mid-face, horizontalizing the commissure and improving
the appearance of the masseter submandibular gland.  These are a few of the many facial
indications for Botox.  Depending on the
area that you are injecting the depth and lines and the wrinkles and the animated
pattern of the patient, maintenance with “protect your result Botox” requires
treatments once every 3-6 months.  Some
patients who are injected with very concentrated high volume Botox need only
come twice a year.  Smaller unit
concentrations of Botox may require visits to the clinic to maintain once every
    3-4 months.

Botox is one of the more popular techniques as the results
are very consistent and the maintenance and treatment are reasonably
    affordable.

I hope this information has been of some assistance and best
of luck. For more information, please review the Botox page

  • The interval between Botox injections will vary depending upon the areas treated, a patient’s individual rate of muscle recovery  and what sort of goal each patient prefers. The crow’s feet lateral to the eyes tend to recover fairly quickly and may need reinjection every 3 months or so. The forehead usually recovers more slowly and Botox might last 4 to 5 months, maybe 6. If patients prefer a look with hardly any movement, they will need to have injections more frequently. Those who don’t mind seeing some expression lines return usually need treatment twice a year.

  • Botox is generally recommended to be repeated every 3 months if you don’t want any signs of your wrinkles returning. Realistically most people wait until they start to see the product wear off which is anywhere between 3 and 5 months depending on the individual and how much product was injected. Hope that helps!

  • Botox lasts 3-5 months before repeat treatment is needed to maintain the results that are obtained. Some patients who despise active frown lines of any type treat more often, others who don’t  mind having a bit of facial expression retreat every 4-5 months.
