A double chin is one of the more common aesthetic procedures that we perform in the head and neck region.
Double chin can be a hereditary predisposition or one that is acquired during aging as part of localized weight gain. Double chin or excess fat under the subcutaneous tissue can be treated
with advanced forms of liposuction. These procedures are performed under local anesthetic and a small probe is inserted through a small access port placed invisibly under the chin. A small probe can be laser (Smartlipo), ultrasound probe (Vaser Lipo) or radio frequency (BodyTite) and the probe moves back and forth coagulating and liquefying the fat. This makes retrieval of the fat and removal much simpler with less to no bruising and minimal pain and discomfort. The energy devices of modern liposuction for the submentum also stimulate a significant skin contraction so the risk of loose skin after treating your double chin are greatly diminished.
The cost for such a procedure will range from $3,000.00 to $6,000.00 depending on the amount of fat under your chin, the extent that it extends out to the sides towards your ears and jawline.
Generally, recovery times are measured in a matter of days. A wrap is worn several hours at a time post-operatively to shape the skin to its new contour and most patients are very happy with the overall result. If your excess skin of the double chin is associated with loose skin and wrinkles of the neck external treatments such as fractional laser resurfacing and fractional radio frequency resurfacing can be performed simultaneously to reduce the wrinkles and any sun damage can be treated with intense pulsed light photofacials at the same time as a submental advanced energy assisted liposuction.
I hope this information has been of some assistance and best of luck.
