Breat Reduction
I am 19 years old and want a reduction. My parents have pretty good insurance. I’m a 5’1″ and weight 110ibs with a size 34C chest. I feel very out of proportion to my small body and wanting to know if I would be a good candidate for the surgery?

Dear Amber,
Thank you for your clinical
post. Mammary hypertrophy or enlarged
breasts is a very common condition. The
reduction procedure can lead to significant scarring around the areola and
under the breast in a lollipop or anchor shaped incision shape. Due to the uncertainty of scar healing, you
want to be sure that the breast reduction is right for you. Signs and symptoms that generally lead
patients to breast reduction include shoulder pain from bra straps,
inflammation under the breast, neck and back pain from the enlarged breasts and
generally when these symptoms are present then the scars from the breast
reduction are generally worthwhile.
There are many things we can use to treat scars such as breast reduction
scars such as lasers and other techniques can minimize their appearance.
When the patients are young it is
very important that they carefully consider the long-term consequences of
cosmetic surgery such as breast reduction rather than rushing into it. A long discussion with one or two plastic
surgeons who perform breast reduction surgery and your parents would be in
order and weigh the risks and the benefits.
There are other techniques such as ultrasonic liposuction and body
liposuction techniques that can reduce the size of the breast gland, not lead
to excessive drooping and still provide relief from the enlarged state without
the scars.
Carefully consider your options and
I’m sure you’ll arrive at the best decision for you. For more information, visit: https://spamedica.com/cosmetic-plastic-surgery-toronto/breast-cosmetic-surgery/breast-augmentation-toronto/
